The CauZe
A ridiculous company known as Cablevision has a
COMPLETE MONOPOLY on provision of cable in my area. i assume its this
way in most of the US. Unfortunately, the government does not feel it
important to censor such companies from charging ridiculous fees for
premium channel provision. The consumer has fought back by purchasing or
assembling a "black box" or descrambler (note that this device is illegal to have
in operation in your home, however, i contacted Cablevision and they stated
that it is not illegal even to have the "black box" connected to your TV, as long
as it is not in operation - i'd play it safe, hide it if u have it), that allows a
person to view pay channels for free.
NOWADAYS DSS (Digital Satellite Service) is becoming
more and more popular. I am afraid that the same thing that has happened with
Cable Service may also occur in the field of DSS Provision. It is only a matter
of time! When you order DSS service, your DSS "box" comes programmed
with codes to descramble only the channels that are included in the "package"
that you pay for. These codes are changed periodically, most commonly,
every month. All the codes are stored on something called a Smart
Card. Fortunately for the consumer who knows a little about electronics,
these Smart Cards are Programmable!! Thats right, with the right software,
knowledge and information, you can reprogram your DSS box with the
capabitity to descramble ALL channels offered in premium packages. Note
that these codes are changed periodically and in order to maintain your
"premium package" you must have a source to get the correct codes month
after month. You also need the correct software and knowledge, or know
someone who does. Check this out in the tech
section.
